Program Management Certification Requirements

To apply for the PgMP, you need to have either:

  • A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or the global equivalent), with at least four years (6,000 hours) of project management experience and seven years (10,500 hours) of program management experience.

  • A four year degree (bachelor’s degree or the global equivalent), with at least four years (6,000 hours) of project management experience and four years (6,000 hours) of program management experience.

Effective 1 November 2013, PMl no longer requires the Multi Rater Assessment evaluation as part of the application process for the Program Management Professional PgMP® credential. After careful consideration to improve the credential evaluation process, we are confident that we are able to assess the competence, education and skills of program management professionals with the comprehensive examination and panel review, which will still be required to earn the credential.

Maintain Your PgMP Certification

As part of PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements program, a PgMP credential holder will need to earn 60 PDUs per three-year cycle.
